I wrote to Matt:

"Imitation may be flattery, but not in the eyes of many bona-fide couriers. The legendary "Buffalo" Bill Chidley has blogged angrily on his courier scene-zine Moving Target about the phony messenger phenomenon."

No, I haven't! I am critical of messengers who use the word.

He wrote back:

His writing was'nt that innaccurate and he seems like a decent chap so lay off fella.

Perhaps there is some truth in Matts comments. Perhaps Bill has changed his opinion to remain messenger correct? Was it not Bill who started all this malarchy about fakengers? I think Matt has been investigating this for some time and felt compelled to print the truth.

there's nothing really wrong with the article, he's reporting a phenomenon that exists using terminology that is already in parlance.

As a cycling journalist I'm sure Matt monitors many relevant websites....what's slightly unfortunate is that had he checked MT in the couple of days leading up to publication of his guardian piece he would've noticed Bill's "Olive branch" to the "fixed wheel enthusiast" community.

a lot of fakenger stuff was on MT though wasn't it?.....wether written by Bill or forum posters....I can't remember.

surely bill is just picking up on the vibe on the street thats all?

proper geared bikes will be the next thing anyway.. full record & steel frames... yum yum
