Hello all, a young photographer from Bath wants to take some pictures of couriers...he shoud post on here soon and tell more about his project....some of his pix here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/janku/
My name is Janek, 28 and I am a photographer living in Bath. I was working as a bicycle driver in Poland and then in the UK for more than 6 years. You can see a small article about me in local paper http://www.thisisbath.co.uk/Jan-pizza-man-faster-food/story-11328432-detail/story.html I have always wanted to be a bike courier in such a big city like London. However now I become a photographer.
Anyway, the point is:
As a amatour photographer, I would like to use my skills to make sth particularly interesting, which would be my first documentary work, a story told by photos. Taking into consideration that not only have I still a bicycle (wich I have recently changed to a single speed) but also a lot of strengh and a strong will, I know that the topic about a life of bike couriers in London is made just for me.
The way I would like to meet you is basically by cycling with you. I want to be your company while delivering goods, go with you for a beer after work, whittness alleycat and critical mass, see Polo league, and how you argue with taxi drivers, etc. So to speak, I want to be your "shadow".
Because of the fact that I live 140 miles from central London, I am not able to be there everyday. However, I am comming this Monday.
Jan you should hook up with are official Polish photo boy -Selimski .He is good, im sure he could point you in the right direction and yes he is another bike driver.Your very lucky living in Bath its lovley and a gateway to Glasto.
Bath used to be lovely, its more expensive than Chelsea now. . .still looks good but so does a posh bird in Oxford St still dont mean you or I can afford it any more
And the Porter Butt was the place to see punk bands, I saw Citizen Fish there for £1, and Moles beer was 50p in happy hour, and I aint that old. . .we're talking 1993 times
